Forward Together...
My passion for education and my commitment to serving my community inspires me to run for re-election. My experience on the board gives me valuable insights and knowledge that can benefit the school district and my community. This experience allows me to make informed decisions and advocate for effective governance, oversight, and accountability. It also ensures continuity in the ongoing initiatives and projects of the school board. This is crucial for maintaining progress and avoiding disruptions in educational programs.
I am dedicated to making a positive impact and fulfilling my responsibilities as a school board member. I have built strong connections with community members, parents, teachers, and students. Getting re-elected allows me to further strengthen these connections and continue engagement with stakeholders to address their needs
and concerns. We have achieved significant milestones during my first year and we have specific goals we still want to accomplish. Getting re-elected will give us that opportunity to see those through and make a lasting impact on the school district.
Accomplishments, milestones and fulfilled campaign promises: Our greatest accomplishment was voting YES to the biggest teacher pay increase in the history of CCSD, a $5k pay increase across the scale, a $5K bonus, a 2% COLA and extending the pay scale to Step 40, while balancing the budget with a minimal milage increase. I was proud to vote in support of EL, a high-quality curriculum that produced record high scores in CCSD for student achievement.
We hired a qualified Chief Academic Officer (CAO) to continue these record-breaking gains. I was appointed to the South Carolina School Board Association (SCSBA) Board of Directors and received my Level 1 Certification from the SCSBA Boardmanship Institute. I currently serve as the Vice Chair of Audit and Finance Committee for CCSD. I was the recipient of the 2024 MLK Picture Award for outstanding community service. Through collaboration with the Town of Hollywood, we opened the Community Resource Center, Hollywood, where we provide monthly food distributions for our families in D23. I collaborated with the Community Resource Center, North Charleston and participated in the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act Program providing access to employment and education training for D4 and D23 constituents.
I advocated and supported the implementation of ESSER funded programs for student support services in D9 and supported the D23 Collaboration ($3M). We allocated funds for the St. John’s High School baseball/softball field renovation project ($7M) and the Baptist Hill High School Athletics renovation project ($6M). I became a member of the SC Caucus of Black School Board members and was recognized by the Missionary of the Diocese of the Southeast for my advocacy work. I have visited all 13 schools in District 8, and many other CCSD schools, and participated in Back-to-School events. I participated in Read Across America, Reading Role Models, and Black History school events in our local schools. Lastly, I am proud to say that I have a 100% attendance record for Board and Committee meetings since being sworn in on November 18, 2022. The work that we do is just that important!
I am committed to ensuring that every child in our rural communities and Charleston County has access to quality education. Together, we can
strengthen our schools, support our teachers, and provide our students with the tools they need to succeed. Let's continue to work together to build a brighter future for ALL children.
Thank you in advance for your support! Please share with your family, friends and co-workers and ask them to join you in supporting my re-election to the Charleston County School District, Board of Trustees.
